Laboratory Analyst
The successful candidate will perform microbiological analyses of air and bulk samples after undergoing an industry-leading training program in microbiological analysis using a range of analytical methods including light microscopy/ Nomarski differential interference contrast microscopy, culture-based techniques, biochemical tests, and molecular genetic methods. Following the mandatory training period, the successful applicant will be expected to:
- conduct microbiological analyses of environmental samples in support of commercial testing, contract research, methods development, and pure research;
- participate in internal and external quality assurance and laboratory proficiency testing and accreditation programs;
- assist in providing supervision for work term students, undergraduate and graduate students during practica, as needed;
- seek and maintain at the expense of Sporometrics such professional designations and certifications as relate to the analysis of environmental fungi, including but not limited to the Pan-American Aerobiology Certification Board–Spore Trap Analyst Certification Program;
- assist in the maintenance of a microbial culture collection and herbarium; and,
- support the smooth operation of the laboratory on a day-to-day basis.
Education and Experience:
The successful applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree in microbiology or equivalent from an accredited university or a minimum of one year related experience in laboratory microbiology. Applicants must demonstrate fluency in spoken and written English. Preference will be given to applicants with advanced degrees and fluency in French and/ or Spanish.
