Ecology of indoor moulds

Course Description

This one day course will examine the process for locating microbial contamination in indoor environments. Potential hidden sources of microbial growth will be examined through the analysis of construction materials present in relation to the types of microbes that grow on those materials. Appropriate use of specific sampling procedures under various circumstances will be explored. The proper use of equipment and handling of supplies will be discussed as a means to improve the field professionals’ ability to test for these hidden micro-organisms.

Learning Outcomes

When this course is completed the participants will be able to:

  • Understand the relationship between specific microbes found in the indoor environment and host organisms;
  • Employ techniques for locating hidden sources of mold growth in the outdoor environment; and,
  • Use effective sampling techniques for collection and direct microscopic mold samples.
