Barrie Malloch, MSc

Barrie completed a MSc in Mycology from the University of Toronto Department of Botany. Her thesis, “Pyrenomycetes on Wood in Ontario” was supervised by Roy F. Cain, a world authority on the taxonomy of ascomycetes.

Barrie joined the University of Toronto in 1975 as a research assistant in the laboratory of Dr. David Malloch, where she continued to study fungi. In 1981, after having authored several papers in mycology, she became a biology teaching technician for the university, offering instruction in mycology, molecular biology, cell biology, and biotechnology.

In 2000, Barrie coordinated the establishment of a new university laboratory facility for the Masters in Biotechnology Program “Genetics and Molecular Biology”. Barrie joined Sporometrics in 2003, where she continues to pursue her mycology interests in a more focused environment.
