At the heart of our commercial research and service engine are Dr. James Scott and Dr. Richard Summerbell, both world renowned scientists specialized in mycology with extensive experience in other areas of microbiology.
Dr. James Scott, the founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Sporometrics graduated from the University of Toronto with a doctorate in mycology, minoring in occupational hygiene. He has authored pivotal publications on indoor biological hazards, such as CMHC’s best-selling “Clean-Up Procedures for Mold in Houses”, and portions of key professional practice publications such as the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) “Green Book” — Recognition, Evaluation, and Control of Indoor Mold, and The Role of the Industrial Hygienist in a Pandemic, along with numerous peer-reviewed articles on the taxonomy, ecology and genetics of environmental microbes. Dr. Scott is also a professor in the Division of Occupational & Environmental Health at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto.
Dr. Richard Summerbell is the Director of Research at Sporometrics. Prior to joining Sporometrics in 2007, Dr. Summerbell was a Senior Scientist at the Centraalbureau voor Schimmelcultures in Utrecht, The Netherlands where he served as one of the leading world experts on hyphomycetes. Dr. Summerbell is the former Chief of Medical Mycology for the Ontario Ministry of Health’s Central Public Health Laboratory in Toronto. He is author of over 160 publications, including several cornerstone textbooks on medically important fungi. Like Dr. Scott, Dr. Summerbell is a professor in the Division of Occupational & Environmental Health at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto.
